How Juniper Junkers Came to Be
Welcome! My name is Ryan and I am founder of Juniper Junkers, along with my wife Jules. The story of Juniper Junkers all began with a spark. I wish I could say the spark in question was a spark of imagination or creativity, but it was sadly the other kind. The kind that burns down buildings.
If you lived in Boulder in 2021, you may have remembered this:
Yeahhhh…that was our condominium complex in Boulder. In just a couple of hours in the whee morning of October 19, 2021, the Whittier Place Condominiums went from a thriving community to a displaced community. It was not enjoyable. 0 Stars. Would not like to become a fire victim again. It’s a no for me.
Okay, let’s get serious for a second:
Alright, now that we are serious, for those who have never lost a home to fire, rebuilding is an agonizingly long process. This is especially true when a fire happens in a condominium complex. In our case, 81 units had to be fully demolished and rebuilt. Toxic debris, new building codes, permitting delays, and battles with insurance all compounded the wait. Going on 4 years and we are still without our unit (expectations are that our complex will be fully rebuilt in June 2026).
If this whole saga has taught me anything, it’s that:
Truly though, you don’t want no part of this. I really try to keep things positive, but I would be lying if I told you that our personal experience with fire wasn’t devastating. It was. Fire is like an eraser. It erases time, precious keepsakes, finances, and of course the home itself.
Having gone through what we went through, Jules and I both knew in our hearts that we wanted to help homeowners in our community reduce their own fire risk. The most obvious place to start was with reducing Boulder County’s fire-prone juniper density issue. Alas, Juniper Junkers was born!
If you live in Boulder, Louisville, or Lafayette and have junipers that you would like to get rid of, we would like to help you. Removing junipers is tough, prickly work, but it’s extremely gratifying to know we’re playing an active role in helping reduce the wildfire risk for Boulder County homes like yours.
All for one and one for all!
